Why Wood

Why Wood?

Holz2

We work with the natural product wood.

Strength

Wood is not only trendy but downright impressive by the favorable ratio between weight and static strength. Wood is experiencing a real boom. It reserves its strength with the right dimension even in case of fire. Wood is a natural product, light and durable. Consequently, the use of wood, as the only flammable building material, is possible in different levels of fire resistance.

Low Cost

Building with timber is inexpensive. But not all savings are directly related to the wood itself. The cost of the foundation for example is less expensive because the timber is light in weight. That is also usually favorable when building on a bad ground or slope. Even with extensions or increasing levels on buildings with limited carrying capacity, timber can be an advantage and leads to better solutions. Decisive for the cost is the know-how of the material wood, good planning, the high degree of prefabrication and the short construction period.

Safety

It is true that wood burns! But it is also true that wood behaves very well in case of fire. The burning rate is slow, evenly and precisely calculatable, even at the highest temperatures. Where a non-combustible construction has long since collapsed, a wooden construction is still holding up in case of a fire. This attribute has also been recognized by the fire authorities, so that multi-storey wood buildings are possible nowadays.

Also with respect to earthquake safety, wood has great advantages due to its elasticity. Crucial here is the proper planning and dimensioning as well as the compliance and layout during execution.

Versatility

Buildings done in wood can be covered with a paint layer or translucent wood products. Other façade sheet materials are possible such as “eternit” cement, metal, solid core panels, etc. A plastered facade can be ventilated or also realized as a compact facade without loosing the comfortable climate inside.

Natural

Wood is a building material which not only radiates it’s natural beauty, but in massive form also contributes to a balanced good indoor climate. Wood not only smells good, but also carries out antiseptic properties which is good for indoor air quality. Wood products from wood fibers and wood chips can be used to isolate or for stiffening timber frames.

Warmth

Wood feels warm due to the low conductivity. In addition, this characteristic means that you feel completely comfortable in rooms with wood paneling. Wood is the only building material with static and at the same time having insulating advantages.

With System

At a new construction site, the production of the modules can be started at the same time as the construction site. The prefabricated modules are transported to the construction site and assembled in a short time to a building. Thanks to the high degree of prefabrication of wall and ceiling elements in the workshop, the assembly time is reduced considerably and the phase of mounting is much less dependent on the weather.

Economically

Based on the energy consumption, wood houses reach with proper planning and execution insulation values that are far above the norm. The energy required for heating is less. The heating system can be minimized and that in turn allows savings in construction and operating costs without compromising the comfort of the builder.

Ecologically

Wood is one of the few materials to which the word “sustainable” is really true. Whether a tree is decomposed in the forest of micro-organisms, or used as building material, it has with respect to the CO² -cycle no influence. On the contrary: the more wood is being used as building material, the more CO² air is extracted and stored permanently. If old wood no longer is used as a building material, it must not be disposed of as hazardous waste but can be recycled for the industry or used as fuel for energy.

Pleasant

Wood has still sometimes an image of being a simple housing construction. With the same wall thickness and suitable combination of various insulation materials, economic wall structures can be realized, which are not possible with other materials. Concerning soundproofing, more layers or fillers are used today with different materials which do not bear comparison with concrete buildings.

Honesty

Wood in solid design represents a real equivalent, which is stable in value and is gaining character with age. Wood keeps its excellent qualities and has been a proven and tested material over centuries.

Durability

Wood is durable. Proof are thousands of historic buildings. Even daring buildings can be executed with the proper type of wood and construction. On natural surfaces, the natural graying of wood (patina) is a self-protection of the wood. The “patina” covers the healthy wood and stabilizes after a few years of weathering.
